RTIS has been collaborating with Morgan Sindall on the £35 million Beckton North Sidings Project to deliver signalling upgrades for a new fleet of trains on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).

As Morgan Sindall’s approved signalling contractor for the works, RTIS have been managing all the signalling works associated with the project. We are excited to announce that our RTIS Beckton teams successfully completed a significant 4 day over & back rehearsal in preparation for the main commissioning at the end of this month. Despite challenges, including a broken-down train delaying the start by 4-5 hours, our dedicated teams worked tirelessly through day and night, overcoming obstacles that resulted in a successful commissioning rehearsal.

Here’s a summary of activities undertaken:

-After the initial delay shunting defective trains to the south of the depot to provide a wheels-free depot in the north. Thanks to DLR in supporting this activity.

– Post briefing the signalling teams were able to commence the temporary switch over from the legacy railway (Which is like open heart surgery) to the new configuration, the night team then corresponded and validate all assets as mature to commission into revenue operation.

– During the weekend the test teams were jointly able to ratify wayside and overcome interface issues to complete the full correspondence.

– The last shift was demanding when the heavens opened during the reconfiguration to the Legacy railway. The signalling team undertook the task successfully on time to allow the TIC/PT to fully correspond and hand back to operations for Sunday evening into Monday morning revenue service.
Working with the signalling engineers, DLR, TfL, MSI and support contractors were instrumental in the support to a successful over & back weekend.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for their hard work, dedication, and commitment. This rehearsal sets us up in good stead for the main commissioning in a few weeks.
