August has been an exceptionally productive month for RT Infrastructure Solutions, marked by significant achievements and ongoing project advancements. We’re excited to share our latest updates:

Our specialised teams have been working nonstop to support key clients such as Alstom, Atkins, Network Rail, Balfour Beatty, DB Cargo, Chiltern Railways, Siemens, Volker Rail, VolkerFitzpatrick, Wabtec, Story Rail, AMCOGiffen, Global Rail, Morgan Sindall, Protech and Murphy with S&T Specialist Staff on major re-signalling schemes, S&C renewals, E&P works, and faulting/maintenance activities. Our project teams, along with our installation and test staff, have been instrumental in the successful progression or completion of various major projects.

Notable Project Updates:

  • Doncaster to Scunthorpe 650V Power Upgrades: This month saw significant progress on the Doncaster to Scunthorpe 650V power upgrades project. The project involves renewing the signalling power distribution system over 44,000m of route mileage between Doncaster and Scunthorpe, along with the necessary signalling modifications throughout the area. RT-IS was contracted by a highly valued client to manage all signalling works, including correlation, installation, testing & commissioning, and recoveries. Since January, our teams have diligently worked on installation and prep testing, successfully completing three major commissioning stages. As of August, we’ve finished installation and prep-testing in 245 location cases.

  • Beckton Project – Commissioning: On Sunday, August 6th, we proudly announced the successful commissioning of the largest and most significant signalling stage, C4Ps, on the Beckton project. This milestone follows over 77,846 hours of dedicated work and paves the way for constructing the new Maintenance Facility Building. RTIS has been collaborating with Morgan Sindall on the £35 million Beckton North Sidings Project to deliver essential signalling upgrades for a new fleet of trains on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Despite unforeseen changes to the overall project scope, a new Principal Contractor, and numerous design revisions over the past three and a half years, the RTIS team has demonstrated resilience and adaptability. The commissioning of C4Ps is a testament to their hard work and commitment. The next milestone of the project will be in September with the team working towards the commissioning of stage C5W.

  • Chittening Wharf, Avonmouth: Our teams assisted our valued client in the first bridge replacement of CP7 at Chittening Wharf in Avonmouth, Bristol. This included undertaking SMTH Testing—disconnections and reconnections—along with providing full SMTH cover for the duration of the works.

  • Wembley Signal Cable Replacement: Our maintenance teams were active in Wembley, undertaking monthly routine signalling activities whilst also  replacing cables for faulty signals to ensure continued operational efficiency.

  • RT Training: August also marked the completion of RT Training’s third Signalling Installer course of the year. After completing their 6-week training program, the engineers are now ready to work alongside RTIS signalling teams in trackside environments. Equipped with comprehensive training and structured mentorship, they are well-prepared to pursue their IRSE Installer’s licence and enhance their trackside signalling proficiency.
